1. What is Shopify Plus?
I’m much sure you have already heard about Shopify. If not, here’s the brief Introduction.
Shopify is an e-commerce platform solution that was started way back in 2006 with a team of 5 members.
Fast forward to 2017, they have a team of over 2,000 working in 5 offices across North America.
There are 500,000+ active stores on Shopify platform, and store owner has processed $40 billion worth of sales!
The reason behind writing this fancy description was just to tell you that – no matter how big your business can get, Shopify can handle it.
Shopify plus is basically an extension of Shopify, which is designed for large companies and high-volume businesses.
Shopify is very transparent with their customers and they ask them some very tough questions:
What do you wish your e-commerce platform could do?
Where are we falling short?
They interviewed their core customers to learn their daily pain points and victories and learned that high-growth and enterprise companies were underserved.
Their customers had the technology, but they lacked the support.
To be honest, If your business is making millions of dollar each day then you simply don’t have time to micro-manage your inventory or investigate shopping cart glitches.
Rather, you will focus on managing your brand, sustaining growth, and continuing to build your empire.
To fulfill these needs, Shopify created support teams with Launch Managers and Merchant Success Managers who handle all the dirty work for you, leaving you free to focus on what truly matters for your brand long-term success.
And so Shopify Plus was born.
2. Is it the right fit?
The key benefit of using Shopify Plus is that the platform shifts retailers e-commerce spend away from integration and unnecessary infrastructure costs.
This way, you can focus more on partner services, such as user experience (UX), design, marketing, conversion optimization, and SEO.
But the only question is – whether Shopify plus is the right fit for you or not?
Different business has different needs, something that’s best for one business doesn’t necessarily mean it will be best for you as well.
I don’t know your business personally, but I have categorized it into three main categories:
- Existing Shopify customer – You are already on a lower-tier Shopify plan.
- Enterprise or custom platform user – You are currently on an Enterprise or custom e-commerce platform.
- Established brand looking for speed – You are not interested in a complete re-platform, but you are looking for speed and convenience to execute a specific project or campaign with a set timeline.
Let’s talk about it in detail.
1. Existing Shopify customer
You are already on a lower-tier Shopify plan (Basic, Shopify or Advanced)
- You have high growth trajectory or $500k+ in revenue
- You have high-touch account management needs
- You want (or require) a Plus-specific feature
Key features that differentiate Shopify Plus from other Shopify plans:
- Enterprise-Focused Feature Set
- Merchant Success & Plus Support
- Plus Technology Partners
2. Enterprise or custom platform user
You are already on an existing Enterprise or custom e-commerce platform (Magento, Demandware, Oracle, etc.)
- If you are leveraging an enterprise or on-premise solution, you typically spend 4% to 7% of gross merchandise volume (GMV) on technology each year.
- Your Internal resources may be too focused on development/infrastructure and not the core business.
- You often invest unnecessary time and energy into hosting, application management, security patching, and upgrades.
- Your on-premise servers often crash on high-volume days because the infrastructure was unprepared to scale to peak capacity.
Key features that differentiate Shopify Plus from other enterprise platforms:
- Scalability & Reliability
- Speed and Simplification
- Infrastructure Advantage
- Cost savings compared to hosting any on-premise solution
3. Established brands looking for speed
You are not necessarily looking for a re-platform but you have a specific campaign, project, or flash sale that is time-bound.
- You are well-known retail or consumer packaged goods (CPG) brand with a sizable marketing budget
- You cannot accommodate timelines using existing technology
- Your potential interest is in social selling and buy buttons as well as seamless same day delivery options via UBERRush & Postmates (or any other)
- You need fast turnaround time to get website stood up and ready to launch
Key features that differentiate Shopify Plus from other e-commerce platforms:
- Enterprise-Focused Feature Set that is proven to accommodate flash sales
- Rapid Deployment
- Unrestricted Design
- RESTful APIs
- Scalability & Reliability
- Channels & Mobile
- Merchant Success & Plus Support

I will start my first testimonial with my favorite Kylie Jenner <3
Here’s a behind the scenes look at Kylie Jenner’s launch of lip glosses Like, Literally, and so cute for her Kylie Cosmetics line.
The second testimonial is from CEO of Gymshark, Ben Francis.
See why Ben is so confident about Shopify Plus.
To be honest, as a Shopify partner I feel really good (and proud) when I see brands so big, trust Shopify with their business.
Shopify focuses on making commerce better for everyone, so businesses can focus on what they do best: building and selling their products.
7. Shopify Plus pricing
Shopify Plus pricing is available on quote basis only.
You need to contact Shopify Plus team for detailed pricing structure, they will give you a quote on the basis of your sales volume.
However, I will tell you how it works exactly.
Shopify Plus has maintained the same pricing model since their launch almost three years ago.
But from February 1, 2017, they changed it to variable rate pricing model.
According to which, 0.25% of monthly store sales or $2,000 monthly, whichever is higher, to a maximum of $40,000 per month.
If you are using Shopify payments then there will be no transactions fees.
If you are not using Shopify payments then it will be set at 0.15% of store sales per month.
Let me illustrate it with the help of an example, how it will work.
Your store(s) transact $800,000.00 USD per month or more, Shopify Plus will be charged at 0.25% of store(s) sales per month.
Your store(s) transact between $0 and $800,000.00 USD per month, Shopify Plus will be charged at a flat $2,000.00 USD per month.
Your store(s) transact $16 million USD per month or more, your monthly platform fees for Shopify Plus will be capped at $40,000.00 USD per month and you will not pay more regardless of additional transaction volume.
As of today, there’s no change in pricing structure so it will be applied to your business.
8. Launching with Shopify Plus
Shopify Plus has a Launch management team to provide advice, resources, best practices, and reassurance throughout the entire process.
Here’s what you can generally expect once you sign-up:
A kick-off call and weekly recurring call schedule to determine launch requirements and potential roadblocks, set a launch date, and make team introductions.
Your design and development team will be connected with the client’s Launch Manager, or you will be introduced to a Shopify Plus Partner for all design and development needs.
After that – design, development, and custom SSL installation begin.
Migration (if needed) and site build
If you are moving from another enterprise platform then Shopify may connect you with a 3rd party migration service or partner and advice on SEO best practices.
Migration times vary depending on your services, platform, and/or volume of data.
Site build includes taxonomy, collections, navigation, theme selection, and the completion of the launch checklist as provided by the Shopify Plus Partner’s SOW.
Training/testing and launch
You will train with your Launch Manager while Shopify processes test transactions and tests data transfer.
The launch includes URL redirects setup, domain setting configuration, custom SSL installation, and removal of storefront password.
Your Launch Manager will remain the point of contact for a week after launch, after which your Merchant Success Manager will take over.
Merchant Success Manager (MSM)
Once onboarding is complete, the Shopify Plus platform really begins to shine.
You will have access to 24/7 support – no answering machines or suspenseful nights spent waiting for a callback.
You will have a dedicated Merchant Success Manager (MSM) throughout your entire relationship with Shopify Plus.
What does this mean?
MSMs are Shopify experts who know your website – and your brand – delivering advice and action plans that marry the brand perfectly with the platform.
When you have a question, concern, or opportunity, you have a single point of contact instead of being juggled by the customer service department.
Your MSM knows their goals and expectations without the need for a backstory every time you call.
Your triumphs are an MSM’s triumphs, they live up to your name and take personal pride in seeing you performing at your best.
Tell me honestly, how many other ecommerce platforms can guarantee that?
